The Late Hugo Chetcuti –
Former Chairman and Founder of Hugo’s Group
Over the years, the late Hugo Chetcuti established himself as a pioneer within the local hospitality industry. Almost 30 years ago, Hugo put his acute business sense and sheer determination to the test and acquired Footloose, which since his takeover, became a key destination for local clubbers.
Since then, he founded a succession of popular bars, restaurants, fast food outlets and nightclubs, all situated in the thriving hub of the island’s business and entertainment sector. Under his tenure, the ‘Hugo’s’ brand developed into a commodity offering value for money, high-end quality, renowned customer service, excellent food & drink, as well as a unique charm.
In recent years, Hugo diversified his operations into the hospitality sector with the opening of Hugo’s Boutique Hotel, which was soon followed up by the all-new H Hotel – a 170 room, avant-garde luxury hotel. This immediately transformed ‘Hugo’s’ into nothing less than a full-blown hospitality brand, one that delivers a seamless end-to-end experience for locals and tourists alike.
Ambition and a strong will to succeed were always at the forefront of everything Hugo did. However, his success was also built on a foundation of loyalty and respect shown to his staff, consequently resulting in a strong working relationship with his employees.
Hugo, a committed philanthropist, was a cooperate guru and highly-revered entrepreneur who commanded praise and respect from all those who came in contact with him. He is sorely missed and forever in our hearts. May he rest in peace.
Luke Chetcuti –
Managing Director
Luke Chetcuti joined his father’s company at the age of 16 after having attended St. Edwards College (Malta) and The Oratory (UK). His unwavering sense of enthusiasm and deep commitment to the company soon became apparent and within a short period of time, he was promoted from working behind the bar to Outlet Manager and then Operations Manager of Hugo’s Group.
To ensure maximum well-being for the organisation, Luke immediately set his sights on improving performance, productivity, efficiency and profitability. Hugo’s Group rapidly began to increase its market exposure under his tenure as Operations Manager.
Since the tragic passing of his father, Luke has taken up the helm as the new Managing Director and has identified his objectives to further the company’s prosperity. The main three areas which have been ear marked for further development are the expansion within the hospitality sector with new hotels, the franchising of the extremely successful Hugo’s Burger Bar, and finally, the increased awareness of the Hugo’s brand – both locally and internationally.
Recognising that Hugo’s Group has become a local market leader, Luke has also undertaken the process of restructuring the business in order to create a long-lasting competitive edge. Along with his team of highly-motivated and experienced professionals, Luke offers an important company-based perspective, in particular, knowledge of the company’s local markets and industry competitors, which provides valuable insight and market expertise.
